Summary

This is a stone and thatched cottage probably dating from mid-16th century.

At least from 1779 the cottage was part of the Watts estate which was acquired by the Heskeths in 1940, and sold to the tenants in 1951.

For most of the 19th century the tenants were the Whitbread and Webb families.  John Webb married Mary Whitbread, daughter of Frances Whitbread who was head of the household in 1841 and 1851.  Frances was the widow of Daniel Whitbread who is recorded as the tenant in 1818.  John Webb and then his son Stephen were recorded as heads of the household in censuses from 1861 to 1911.
